CEFA is the craft training organization for Associated General Contractors of AL, Associated Builders and Contractors of AL and the Alabama Concrete Industries Association of AL and is the LINK to over 2,000 construction companies statewide.
Employment in the commercial construction generally includes, wages, health insurance for the employee, some level of term life insurance and in some cases 401(k) plans. Most employees work 40 hours a week 50 weeks a year.
Basic Trade Information: Average weekly income of a “Skilled Craftsman” in construction exceeds that of a 4-year college graduate.
Carpenter: Pay range entry level $24,000 to $26,000, 3 to 4 years of experience $32,000, journeyman $40,000 to $60,000. The commercial carpenter works with steel and concrete as much as he does with wood and interior finishes. Our program focuses on the tools of the trade, trade skills, theory and mechanics needed to function as a carpenter.
Electrician: Pay Range entry level $24,000 to $26,000, 3 to 4 years of experience $35,000 and above, journeyman $44,000 and above. The commercial electrician works with wire, conduit, fire alarm systems, security systems, motor controls, and low voltage cable. Our program focuses on the tools of the trade, trade skills and theory needed to pass licensing exam and function successfully as an electrician.
Plumber: Pay Range entry level $24,000 to $26,000, 3 to 4 years of experience $36,000 and above, journeyman $40,000 and above. The commercial plumber works with copper, brass, cast iron and PVC pipe. Our program focuses on the tools of the trade, basic skills and theory needed to function successfully as a plumber.
HVAC Mechanic: Pay Range entry level $24,000 to $26,000, 3 to 4 years of experience $35,000 and beyond, journeyman $57,000 and beyond. The commercial HVAC mechanic works with heating and air conditioning equipment, duct work, control devices and the installation and service associated with this work. Our program focuses on the tools of the trade, basic skills and theory needed to function successfully as a HVAC mechanic.

Class time: Monday – Thursday: 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Location: CEFA Training Center, 6700 Oporto Madrid Blvd. Birmingham, AL 35206
Tuition & Books: $1,500 per year which consists of 144 hours of instruction
Maximum Scholarship amount $1,375 per 144 hours
Instructors: CEFA instructors are industry employees with an average of 10 years of trade experience.
Certification: Students who complete the training will receive NCCER credentials, wallet card, and student transcript.
